Understanding the Energy Portal's Structure

The Energy Portal, now in its 3rd year, is playing a vital role of an autonomous institute focusing on Sierra Leone's capacity for developing and implementing a strategy for meeting its future energy needs

At this stage,  the Energy portal's main objective is to present the challenges and proposed solutions necessary to acheive 24-hr power generation along with reliable distribution at suitable tariffs in Sierra Leone.

Institutions (Energy Ministries) are expected to provide a supportive environment through legislation to support projects that aim to improve every facet of the existing Power Generation systems and harness HydroPower. Several instruments of Energy Sector reforms are about restructuring to meet performance targets over a fixed-time span. At best, these efforts will infuse a change of culture that may drive a vibrant power sector which inturn will drive a vibrant economy. The Energy Directory will hold the contact and contribution of those nationals and foreign professionals that contribute, at some point, to the understanding of the energy sector's challenges and solutions.

This remains accessible to all professionals in the Sierra Leonean at home and abroad along with web facilities to enabled them to engage the energy projects and initiatives that are attempting to meet this critical national infrastructure objective.

The Current Focus

National Power Authority's (NPA) predecessor was the Sierra Leone Electricity Corporation (SLEC).  Both entity where charged with the same mandate of providing reasonable and reliable electricity to populations centers and their environs. NPA is being deconstructed within the Power Generation Tab. Click on NPA-the agency.

Support the Energy Portal

Engineers at home and from across the diaspora will collectively review in depth all facets of power generation in Sierra Leone to suggest and monitor a lasting set of solutions.  A viable economy justifies power generation investment. A certain amount of installed and distributed power guarantees a vibrant economy and investment.  Click here to find out how you can support the Energy Portal.  Send Suggestions to Energy@Sierraleoneportal.net

Power Plant

Kingtom Power Plant In Power Engineering Journal December 2000, the article "Power in the Sun" note with this photo of the Kingtom power station in Sierra Leone.
"Euphemistically, a project was described as a refurbishment project, but the power station had also been subject to the activity of internal conflict. Parts had been removed with the hope that they would be repaired, refurbished and returned"
